Two 18-year-olds from Sumter are accused of planning and attempting to rob a man at gunpoint that ended with a shot being fired at an occupied vehicle.

Jordan Kai Rivera, of Indigo Drive, and Courtney Grace Evans, of Caroland Drive, reportedly attempted the robbery of a male victim at a location on Indigo Drive on July 2, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Rivera allegedly stood with a .22-caliber handgun as Evans allegedly entered the passenger's side of the victim's vehicle to take the driver's cellphone.

When the plan failed, Rivera "intentionally fired at the occupied vehicle while running toward it," according to warrants.

Evans allegedly returned to the scene after the incident to collect shell casings and gave false information to law enforcement, according to Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the sheriff's office.

The victim was flown to a Richland County hospital with an abdominal wound and facial injury from broken glass. He has since been released.

Both suspects were transported to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, where they both remained as of Monday.

Bond for Rivera, who has been charged with attempted armed robbery, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, criminal conspiracy and two counts of attempted murder, is set at $88,500, and bond for Evans, who faces one count each of attempted armed robbery, criminal conspiracy and obstructing justice, is set at $25,000.

Their next court dates are both set for Aug. 2, according to inmate records.
