Funeral services for Almeta Gaymon Nelson will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 805 S. Harvin St., Sumter, with Marion H. Newton, pastor, and Bishop Willie Green officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Pinewood.

A public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the mortuary.

Almeta, wife of the late Furman Nelson Sr., was born on June 10, 1930, in Panola, to the late Tanzie Thomas and Corine Brown Gaymon.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Furman Nelson Jr., and her daughter, Shirley Nelson Cousar.

She departed this life on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, in Sumter.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, James Nelson and Edward Nelson; three daughters, Marjoree Nelson, Maebelle Farmer and Shavell Nelson; 22 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends from 3 to 8 p.m. daily at 112 Gates St., Sumter.
