The Wilson Hall volleyball team traveled to Trinity Collegiate on Tuesday before hosting Northside Christian on Thursday, pulling out a pair of region victories on their way to a 29-3 overall record.
The Barons fell 25-15 in their first set at Trinity on Tuesday but bounced back to win the second set by the same score. Trinity responded with their own 25-18 victory to regain the advantage before Wilson Hall took the fourth 25-14. The Barons finished strong with a 15-8 victory in the decisive fifth set to claim the win.
McKinley Bath had a monster performance with 22 kills, 20 digs and two blocks. Savannah Wells and Mary Todd Champion each added three aces, while Champion also chipped in with six kills. Bella Quiroz had seven kills. Natalie Hawkey dished out 26 assists, while Tatianna Erichsen had 12. Wells added 19 digs, while Beaty Zeigler had three blocks.
The Wilson Hall JV beat Trinity 25-17, 15-25, 15-4 to improve to 14-3. Lillianna Wells had 12 digs and four aces, while Jane Foley added seven digs. Liza Gooch, Kate-Austen Kaneft and Foley each added five kills. Kenleigh Barnette and Harley Finley each had eight assists.
The Barons then hosted Northside on Thursday, avenging one of their three losses on the season in five sets. Northside took the first set in a battle 27-25 before Wilson Hall evened things out with a 25-17 victory. Northside then won 25-20 before the Barons dominated the fourth set 25-13. Wilson Hall then took the fifth set 15-10 to win the match.
Bath had another huge night with 24 kills and 26 digs. S. Wells added 22 digs and two aces. Hawkey dished out 23 assists and had two aces. Zeigler had five blocks and five kills, while Champion chipped in with nine kills. Erichsen added 10 assists.
The Wilson Hall JV fell 25-17, 27-29, 9-19. Gooch led the way with nine kills and five aces, while Finley dished out 17 assists. L. Wells had 10 digs, while Foley added eight digs, five kills and a block.
LMA DROPS PAIR
The Laurence Manning volleyball team traveled to Northside Christian on Tuesday before hosting Trinity on Thursday, dropping both matchups.
LMA fell in three sets on Tuesday 21-25, 17-25, 14-25. Gracie Lyles and Kiera Stukavec each had five kills, as errors plagued the Lady Swampcats throughout the match. Cydney Cassell finished with 28 assists and two aces, while Emily Frierson added nine digs. Jacie Jones chipped in with three aces, a block and a kill.
Laurence Manning then fell to Trinity in four sets, falling 25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 19-25. Lyles led the offense with 13 kills while adding five blocks. EllaKay Jackson added four aces, three kills and a block. Savannah Ardis had four aces and 30 assists. Stukavec chipped in with three aces, three kills and two blocks. Cassell had three aces, three kills and four digs. Frierson led the team with 14 digs on defense. Anna Prescott added 16 assists.
EAST CLARENDON SPLITS REGION GAMES
The East Clarendon volleyball team traveled to Marlboro County on Tuesday before hosting Waccamaw on Thursday, splitting the matchups.
EC cruised to a 25-8, 25-7, 25-8 win over Marlboro County to open the week. Reagan Nesbit led the offense with seven kills, adding three aces. Aubree Frye had eight aces, seven digs, an assist and a kill. Sophie Brown added 13 assists and an ace. Lindsey Robinson had five aces and four kills. Tori Robinson and Brelyn Stokes each had three aces and a block, while Stokes added two kills.
The Lady Wolverines then dropped a tough match with Waccamaw 18-25, 21-25, 15-25. Nesbitt led the offense with five kills, while L. Robinson added four kills, an ace and a block. T. Robinson had two blocks, an ace and three kills. Brown added three kills, two aces, eight digs and 13 assists. Frye had 11 digs.
TENNIS
LADY GAMECOCKS DROP DOUBLEHEAD WITH SPRING VALLEY
The Sumter High tennis team faced off with Spring Valley for a doubleheader on Thursday, dropping both matchups to fall to 5-6 on the season and 1-4 in region play.
SHS fell 5-1 in the opening match. Their lone victory came from Savannah Johnson, who beat Elizabeth Horne in a marathon 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) matchup. Mariah Connor also went to a tiebreak but fell to Duncan Horne 2-6, 6-4, 0-1 (1-10). Hannah Houston had a tough battle at No. 3 but fell to Margaret Horne 4-6, 5-7. Merrit Jones fell to Reina Yamaski 1-6, 0-6, while Izzy Wright fell to Carli Brown 0-6, 2-6. Natalie Forester and Ellie Flynn dropped their doubles matchup with Jaici Deal and Stella Clarke 1-6, 0-6.
The second matchup had almost the same lineup for both teams, but a change in doubles helped SHS pull out an extra win. Forester and Flynn faced Tejan Kalan and Sarah Boyd Horne, winning 10-8. Johnson earned her second victory over E. Horne 10-8. Houston fell 4-8, Connor lost 2-8, Wright lost 1-8 and Jones fell 0-8.
