A 31-year-old Sumter man has been charged in connection to an accusation that he sexually assaulted a 7-year-old.

Shaun Andrew Campbell, of Bowen Drive, faces a count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

A warrant alleges the incident occurred on or about July 1, 2018, in the 2700 block of Burnt Gin Road. A warrant was issued on Jan. 24, and Campbell was arrested on Monday.

An incident report stated the girl's mother said her daughter had been assaulted more than once.

Bond was denied for Campbell at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
