Sheriff's Office will celebrate National Hot Dog Day on July 23

MANNING - The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office is celebrating National Hot Dog Day from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the sheriff's office, 217 Commerce St. Stay inside your vehicle and drive through the front driveway.

The free hot dog meal will include a hot dog with chili, chips, a dessert and a drink.

Shining Light Awards to be held July 30

MANNING - The Light Foundation, a nonprofit organization, will honor five individuals with its Shining Light Award at the Sapphire Ball - Black Tie Affair beginning at 6 p.m. July 30 at the Matrix Center.

The foundation's board of directors honors individuals and groups who make vital contributions in rural communities throughout the state and who make difficult decisions to enhance excellence and encourage others to follow in their footsteps.

First Monarch Strong Bike-Run-Walk Challenge on Sept. 17

MANNING - The first Monarch Strong Bike-Run-Walk Challenge will be held on Sept. 17 with a 26-mile kick-off bike ride from Manning IGA on Mill Street to the Santee Cooper Lake Dam.

On Sept. 18, the challenge's main event will be held beginning at noon at J.C. Britton Park, 3057 Raccoon Road. Registration for the main event will be $25 from June 14-July 18 and $30 from July 19-Aug. 16.

The second day will feature a barbecue pit master competition. If anyone is interested in competing, call Arthur "Smitty" Smith at (803) 730-5545 before Aug. 16.

The second day of the challenge will also feature lots of food, fun and live entertainment.

The proceeds from the events will support essential needs of deserving students in Manning schools (formerly Clarendon County School District 2).
