MANNING - What can be more delicious than walking out your back door and picking a juicy, ripe tomato from your patio or vegetable garden?

The Clarendon County Master Gardeners won't pick your tomatoes for you, but they will provide you with the best tomato plants for your summertime enjoyment for just $3 a plant during their plant sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 1 and from 9 a.m. to noon on May 2 at the Land, Parker and Welch Courtyard across from the gazebo on West Keitt Street.

"We have some beefsteak, Marion and Purple Cherokee tomato plants as well as some beautiful flowering plants for sale," said Clarendon Master Gardener Marie Land. "We have reduced the prices to $3 a plant and ask that folks bring correct change or write checks to the Clarendon Master Gardeners."

Land said that the sale will be held on the honor system and asks that everyone honor the DHEC social distancing guidelines.

"We had a fabulous turnout for our sale earlier this month," Land said. "We had people coming from Sumter and other towns just to buy our plants. It was great."

Land said that the money raised from the plant sale will be used to fund scholarships and educational programs.
