EULIA GREEN FLEMING

Posted

Eulia "Uley" Green Fleming was born on Dec. 29, 1939, in Pinewood, a daughter of the late Uley Watson Green and Dewey Hopkins.

She met the love of her life and was united in holy matrimony to the late Allen Fleming. To this union, two beautiful daughters were born.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Maggie Watson Brown; and five of her siblings, three brothers, Herbert L. Green, Richard C. Hopkins Sr. and Thomas Hopkins, and two sisters, Maggie Green Montgomery and Estelle Hopkins.

As we reflect on the events of her life, we the family quickly realized that she lived a rich and full life. Growing up in a Christian home, at an early age she was baptized and joined St. John Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Manchester High School in Pinewood in the Class of 1957.

Throughout her life, she maintained her faith and tirelessly worked in many capacities. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. Upon graduating from high school, her formal career began at her alma mater, Manchester High School, where she was offered and accepted the position of secretary. She enjoyed this position and worked in it for 10 years. After her husband, Allen, passed away following a brief illness in August of 1969, her life changed significantly, as she had lost her husband and had two young daughters and many new responsibilities. She made the decision to resign from her position of secretary at Manchester High School and began studying to pursue a funeral director's license. Then, in 1970, she took a leadership role at her husband's business and became the owner and director of Fleming Funeral Home in Summerton. In this role, she had the honor of serving many families in Clarendon and Sumter counties for more than 35 years. Her motto was "One Service to All."

As a result of a brief illness, she departed this earthly life on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia.

Her precious memories will be cherished by two loving and caring daughters, Lillian B. Fleming of Pinewood and Allene J. Fleming of Marietta; a special and devoted niece whom she loved like a daughter, Stephanie V. "Nessa" Auls of Loganville, Georgia; two grandchildren, Allen Fleming of Marietta and Amber Fleming of Roswell, Georgia; one stepson, Allen Fleming of Orangeburg; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
