Leaves will be falling soon, morning temperatures are cooling, and the breeze is picking up. Autumn is upon us, and so is one of Sumter's favorite annual events: the Fall Feast.
The annual community event, presented by FTC, is a unique and extraordinary all-inclusive event with fabulous food to taste, courtesy of more than 30 local businesses and organizations.
The menu is always unique and delicious, as several chefs, businesses and organizations bring dishes to share that range from their favorites to twists on Southern classics.
Serving up savory selections helps to support Sumter Green and its beautification and sustainability efforts in Sumter.
Sumter Green became a nonprofit in 1996, opening the door for growth and expansion of its work. Originally, the effort focused on four entryways into Sumter. Early grants, fundraising and community support helped the nonprofit launch its projects. As the organization developed, it had to figure out how to become sustainable, which required continued awareness, fundraising and community support. After gaining recognition and financial contributions from state and local governments, Sumter Green expanded to enhance major corridors and green spaces throughout the county.
Susan Wild, chair for the nonprofit, said the contributions from Fall Feast and other fundraisers go directly into the community. Thus, as visitors cross the county lines and take note of its appearance, thanks to Sumter Green's efforts by way of community support, they feel that sense of community pride and are inclined to stay awhile.
Along with the array of dishes served at Fall Feast, there will be beverages provided by Pepsi, Yahnis and Mac's Place Spirits. Entertainment will be provided by beloved local band Green Swamp Collective.
This is an adults-only evening. Valid ID is required for adult beverages.
Tickets are $40 per person in advance and $50 at the door. Pre-sale group tickets are $35 per ticket. Tickets can be purchased at www.sumtergreen.org. Group tickets are available by calling (803) 774-1651.
Fall Feast will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at USC Sumter, 200 University Drive. Event entry is through the Nettles Auditorium lobby. This event is known to sell out each year.
HOW ELSE CAN YOU SUPPORT?
This year, Sumter Green is celebrating 30 years of beautifying Sumter and its nine Legacy Partners who have helped make it possible.
The organization has launched its "30 for 30" campaign, which is designed to have 300 community members donate - be it $10, $100 or more - to reach a fundraising goal of $30,000 in recognition of Sumter Green's 30th anniversary.
Money raised through the campaign will go toward additional projects and the revitalization of different Sumter green spaces.
