Fraternity member wins award, team selection

Brother Marcus Thomas of the Bishopville/Manning/Shaw AFB Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. has been awarded the 2023 USATF National Official Committee Outstanding Service Award for outstanding contributions to the South Carolina Association of USATF in the area of Track and Field Officiating.

In addition, Thomas has been selected for the 2024 Olympic Trial Team for Track and Field as a Horizontal Crew Member because of his professionalism, skills and expertise in horizontal jumps that have led him to be among the best track and field officials in the United States.

Brother Thomas has been a track and field assistant coach and USATF official for more than 10 years and has officiated major track and field competitions such as numerous NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, NCAA Conferences Championships, USA Indoor Championships and Master Championships.

Brother Thomas is a mathematics teacher at Alice Drive Middle School and an advisor/recruiter for Alice Drive Middle School Future Business Leaders of America. He is the son of Frances Thomas of Sumter.
