JUDGE GEORGE ROOSEVELT GIBSON

Judge George Roosevelt Gibson, 79, widower of Sarah Deas Gibson, was born on April 20, 1944, in Mayesville, a son of the late Clarence Legrand Gibson Sr. and Pattie Jefferson Gibson. He departed this life on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Sumter County Civic Center, 700 W. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150 with the Rev. Merritt B. Graves, presiding elder of the Sumter District AME Churches, officiating and the Rev. Leo Chapman, eulogist. Interment will follow in Mayesville Community Cemetery, Mayesville, SC 29104.

The family will receive friends at the home, 398 Wilson St., Mayesville, SC 29104.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Ebenezer AME Church, 119 W. Sumter St., Mayesville, SC 29104 or MEII (Mayesville Educational and Industrial Institute), P.O. Box 9, Mayesville, SC 29104.
