At about 1 a.m., Gregory Jamar Wright, 26, of Victory Drive, was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital after being struck by a vehicle, while walking across U.S. 378 near U.S. 15, said Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.
An autopsy will be performed Tuesday morning at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The next of kin has been notified.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is still searching for the unknown vehicle, which is said to be a 2001 – 2006 silver GMC Yukon or Sierra pickup truck.
The vehicle left the scene traveling east on U.S. 378, and it should have damage to the grill area, according to highway patrol. The “GMC” logo from the grill is missing.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
