Lucille G. Cato-Prioleau, affectionately known as “Nana,” passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, March 3, 2024. She departed this life and completed the long-awaited reunion of her parents and three brothers. Lucille was the second eldest of four born to the late Gaines and Elizabeth Cato Sr. in Darlington County, South Carolina.

Lucille’s legacy of hard work and impeccable discipline began as a child. She moved from South Carolina to Long Island, New York, working as a dietician at United Hospital, quality control specialist (Lifesavers) and real estate investor. She worked two jobs for 20 years and was able to retire at the age of 58. Her dedication and astute insights for investing propelled her career forward, leading her to become a powerful force in the business world.

She leaves to cherish her memories her last surviving sister-in-law, Willie M. Cato of Eastover; life partner, David L. Rembert; her son, the Rev. Jerry J. Prioleau (Dr. Virginia Prioleau); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, family, loved ones and friends.

In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 224 Ravenbrook Road, Eastover.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at St. Rest Holiness Church, 360 E. Sumter St., Mayesville, with the Rev. Jerry Prioleau, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. for viewing until time of services.

Burial will be in Mayesville City Cemetery.
