Letter to the editor: Murrell Smith is proven leader for Sumter

I have known Murrell Smith as a lifelong friend, and I can personally attest to his character, integrity and commitment to our community. Born and raised in Sumter, Murrell has remained deeply connected to the people and the place he has always called home.

As speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives, Murrell has provided strong leadership while never forgetting the community he represents. Sumter County has experienced remarkable economic progress, with nearly $1.4 billion in announced private investment in recent years. Recent employment reports also rank Sumter County third in South Carolina for job growth, with employment increasing approximately 3% over the past year - more than four times the statewide rate.

These are encouraging signs for Sumter's future, and I believe Murrell's leadership and influence in Columbia have helped create an environment where our community can prosper.

We are fortunate to have someone from Sumter serving in such an important leadership position. I am proud to call Murrell my friend, and I enthusiastically support his reelection to the South Carolina House of Representatives.
