Richard Thomas Walley, 76, husband of Ida Sansbury Walley, died on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born on March 25, 1947, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was a son of the late Thomas Walley and Helen Griwach Walley. He formerly attended New Hope Baptist Church and was currently attending Hickory Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing music and loved fishing. He was an automobile salesman for many years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Lee Walley (Terrie) of Lexington; a granddaughter, Bella Grace Walley of Lexington; a sister, Mary Walley Williams (C.J.) of St. Mary, Florida; a nephew, Alex Muraviov of Tennessee; and a special aunt, Lottie McManus of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Walley Boccarossa.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ron Taylor officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Walley, Allen Nesbitt, Jay Nesbitt, Jared Nesbitt, Tyler Washington and Steve McManus.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Barwick, Cary Cook and Bubba Hatfield.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
