ROY STEVEN RIVERS

Roy Steven Rivers, 76, husband of Joanne Sims Rivers, died on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Abijah Rivers and Pauline Vandenburg Rivers. Mr. Rivers was a member of Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He retired from Gold Kist and was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a brother, Danny Glen Rivers (Linda) of Franklin, Virginia; a sister, Kathy Rivers Brown of Sumter; and three grandchildren, Tyler Scott, Brooke Coward and Dylan Coward.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Barney Phillip Rivers and John Wayne Rivers.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Emore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Brett Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
