SAFE Federal Credit Union on Monday announced the official signing of a commercial lease that will establish a new branch location in the heart of Sumter.
The new branch, at 40 N. Main St. in downtown Sumter, will replace the current facility in Liberty Center at 12 W. Liberty St. The new branch will offer more space as well as easier street-level visibility and improved access.
"This new location will provide advantages to our members and nearby businesses alike," said SAFE President and CEO Michael Baker. "We're also excited to add to downtown Sumter's growing role as a business center for the community."
Renovations at the new location are expected to begin in early 2027. The current Liberty Center branch will remain fully operational until the formal opening, which is anticipated for spring 2027.
"The relocation to North Main Street is another example of SAFE's commitment to downtown Sumter and our desire to keep bringing improvements to our members," said SAFE's Board Chair, Dr. Kay Oldhouser Davis.
In November, the credit union also will begin renovations on its St. Andrews branch in Columbia. Like this new Sumter branch, the modernized St. Andrews branch is expected to open for business in late spring.
