The alleged incident happened at a location in the 400 block of Raymond Street, according to a release from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, where he is accused of striking a child in the face with a closed fist and causing her to bleed from the nose on Jan. 5.
According to an incident report, the child told first responders Hunter hit her because he was angry about her "putting food into the carpet." She said Hunter has hit her at other times.
Department of Social Services was called, and the child was placed with other family members.
Hunter was released from the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond on Jan. 7.
