The Sumter Police Department is searching for a man wanted in connection to an attempted armed robbery and shooting on Thursday.

According to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the police department, officers responded after 10:30 p.m. to a Hoyt Heights home where a 63-year-old man had been shot.

David Lee Shaw was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for treatment and is recovering, McGirt said.

David McCoy, also 68, of South Sumter Street, is wanted by police in connection to the incident.

Initial information gathered indicates McCoy was at the home and demanded money from Shaw before shots were fired. He faces multiple charges in connection to the incident.

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or knows of McCoy's whereabouts is asked to call the police department at (803) 436-2700.
