Sumter County Sheriff’s Office names person of interest in roadside homicide investigation

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office has named a person of interest in their investigation of a body found roadside on S.C. 261 in April.

Aaron James Thompson is a person of interest in the death investigation of 28-year-old Diequan Underwood, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

At about 7 a.m. on April 29, deputies responded to a body found along S.C. 261 near Yorkridge. Underwood,  identified as the victim, died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office.

Thompson may be in the Columbia area, according to the Bordeaux. Anyone who sees him is asked to call the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 436-2000, report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers at p3tips.com, on the P3 Tips app for mobile devices, or call 911.
