Sumter Today: Volunteers come together to complete service projects at houses in need

Last summer, a cross-denominational and cross-racial group of pastors from Sumter formed after George Floyd was killed to promote non-violence and anti-racism.
That group, which is now called Sumter Together, held an event on Saturday that asked volunteers to complete service projects at homes identified through Sumter United Ministries, a faith-based nonprofit that provides emergency and life-rebuilding services.
Projects included light painting, construction repair, cleanups and yardwork, and volunteers were paired with people they didn’t know to promote communication and new beginnings.
