MAURICE WASHINGTON

Why are you running?

I'm running because too many families in this district are working harder but still falling behind. I know that struggle firsthand, and I've spent my life helping people build financial stability and opportunity. It's time we focus on real results - better jobs, stronger communities and accountability for how taxpayer dollars are spent.

Have you run for political office before? If so, explain:

Yes. I previously served on Charleston City Council, where I helped oversee budgets and community development programs. That experience taught me how to manage resources responsibly and deliver results that directly impact people's lives.

How long have you lived in your district?

I've lived in South Carolina my entire life and have deep roots in this region. I understand the challenges our communities face because I've lived them and worked alongside families across the district for decades.

Current job/profession:

I am a financial advisor and business owner with over 40 years of experience helping individuals, families and small businesses plan, grow and protect their financial futures.

What makes you qualified for the seat?

I bring real-world experience managing money, solving problems and helping people move forward. I've worked with families trying to make ends meet, small businesses trying to grow and communities trying to thrive. Combined with my public service experience, I understand both how policy is made and how it impacts people in real life.

What challenges/concerns do you see in your district (up to 3), and how do you intend to improve them?

1. Economic opportunity that pays - Too many jobs don't lead to financial stability. I will fight for policies that support small business growth, workforce training aligned with real jobs and access to capital so people can build wealth - not just get by.

2. Access to health care - Rural communities are losing access to care. I support expanding access through local providers, telehealth and practical solutions that bring care closer to where people live.

3. Infrastructure and flooding - Roads, drainage and flooding continue to impact daily life and economic growth. I will push for smarter investment in infrastructure that improves safety, supports business development and protects communities.

What successes have you seen in your district that you want to build on?

This district has strong communities, a proud military presence and a deep agricultural base. I want to build on those strengths by creating more opportunities for small businesses, supporting our service members and veterans and ensuring growth benefits the people who live here.

Are you actively involved in the community? How so?

Yes. I've spent decades working directly with individuals and families to help them achieve financial stability and long-term success. I've also served in public office and remained engaged in efforts that support economic growth and community development.
