A year after the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Jamayah Jones, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has charged one man in connection to her death.

The sheriff’s office charged Rahkeem Deaundre Epps with murder after an “extensive investigation” into the shooting, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

According to earlier reporting, on Sept. 6, 2025, deputies responded to a call of a shooting on Camp Branch Road and arrived to find Jones, of Hampton, Georgia, unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead at the scene by Sumter County Coroner’s Office.

Dennis said this is “another example of unacceptable gang violence” and that the sheriff’s office will continue to seek justice for all involved in this “senseless and tragic killing.”

An investigation is ongoing, and Dennis expected more arrests to be made. Anyone with information is asked to call Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Osborne at (803) 436-2004 or Crimestoppers at 1‑888‑CRIME‑SC,  if you wish to remain anonymous.
