Sumter sheriff's office offers $1,000 reward as search for missing woman continues

For several hours Wednesday, more than 40 deputies from Sumter County Sheriff’s Office participated in a search for missing person Vivian Browder, but according to a news release from Public Information Officer Mark Bordeaux, the search was unsuccessful.

Wednesday morning’s search was the latest of multiple efforts undertaken to locate Browder, 63. She was last seen at her Vernon Drive residence on May 18.

Since her disappearance, multiple searches of the area have taken place.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis stated, “In addition to our searches, a private volunteer search and rescue team has also assisted us with additional bloodhounds.”

Deputies from every division of Sumter County Sheriff’s Office searched a wooded area near Vernon Drive and Belmont Drive in Sumter County. Many walked in line through the woods while others used ATVs.

Sheriff Dennis said he and his investigators are exploring every possibility and following up on every lead received.

“At this point, we are considering the possibility that she was taken away from the residence,” he said.

“While we are offering a $1,000 reward and will continue to search, we hope that members of our community who know something will speak up for her,” he added.

Browder was last seen at her residence in the Vernon Drive/Manning Avenue area of Sumter County on Monday, according to a news release from the office. She was wearing a plaid coat, jeans and sneakers. She has known medical conditions and mental health problems and requires the use of oxygen.

She has been entered into the NCIC as a missing person.

Browder has green eyes and blonde/gray hair, weighs 100 pounds and is 5 feet 5 inches tall.
