Sumter Habitat for Humanity gives qualified Sumter County residents who may not qualify for a traditional mortgage the opportunity for homeownership through its affordable Homeownership Program. The program's preapplication cycle is Sept. 2-Oct. 2 for traditional homes (3-4 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1,100 square feet) and senior cottages for 55+ applicants (1 bed, 1 bath, 676 square feet). Special qualification guidelines are available for veterans.

Preapplications are available at the administration office, 812 S. Guignard Drive in Sumter, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or until 6 p.m. at the ReStore. A downloadable PDF is available on the website at HabitatSumter.org/preapplication to print and fill out or by using the scan code. Preapplication submissions will be scheduled via phone and accepted by appointment only for Oct. 6-30. For details, visit the website or call (803) 775-5767, extension 106.
