Missing Moncks Corner man found dead in Sumter County pond

A missing Moncks Corner man was found deceased after an apparent accidental drowning.

The body of Michael McKelvey, 36, was found in a pond in the Cherryvale area on Jan. 31, said Deputy Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He was last seen on Jan. 2 on Cherryvale Drive.

The results of the autopsy conducted on Feb. 2 at the Medical University of South Carolina indicate no signs of foul play, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker. A toxicology report is pending.

McKelvey’s next of kin have been notified.
