Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has launched a homicide investigation after the discovery of two bodies at a Lynchburg residence on Wednesday, according to a news release, and the Sumter coroner released their identities Thursday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to the home Wednesday evening after receiving a report that two people had been found dead. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed the deaths of two adults, according to Public Information Officer Mark Bordeaux in the release.

The deceased found at their home on Puddin Swamp Road were identified by Sumter County Coroner's Office as Lola Hurt, 55, and Melony Johnson, 41. According to a news release by the coroner's office, they died of apparent gunshot wounds. Autopsies will be performed on Tuesday at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Investigators have identified persons of interest and have reason to think the victims knew those responsible. It is also thought that this was an isolated incident and does not pose a threat to the community.

Next of kin has been notified, and both offices are investigating.

More information will be released as the investigation progresses.
