Sumter coroner releases identity of man burned in wooded area; sheriff’s office to hold news conference on Thursday

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker released the identity of the male found burned in the wooded area on Cedar Avenue.

Maurice Tyrell Isaac, 20, of Sumter, died on scene from a gunshot wound and was later burned, according to Baker.

Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy was performed Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office will host a news conference on Thursday to provide more details on the investigation into the case.
