Sumter man wanted on charges of murder, attempted murder; victim identified as 33-year-old Sumter woman

Deputies say he is armed, dangerous

Sumter deputies are searching for a man who is considered armed and dangerous in connection to an incident that occurred Saturday morning, March 23. 

Troy Cornelus Wells, 44, is wanted on charges of murder and attempted murder in connection to a shooting incident that occurred before 6 a.m. on Saturday in the 1700 block of North Main Street, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff's Office. 

The victim Jennifer Marie Cruz, 33, of Sumter, arrived at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter after suffering injuries from the shooting, according to Bordeaux. She was pronounced dead due to those injuries.

The next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Wells, the suspect, is 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 179 pounds  and has brown eyes and brown hair.  He is considered armed and dangerous.
