Letter to the editor: Continuing to serve the public is what Leventis wants to do

Posted

I heartily endorse my long-term friend, Phil Leventis's, re-election campaign for the District 8 seat on the Sumter school board. Phil enjoys campaigning and serving the public well. In particular:

1. Phil's extensive business career has enabled him to promote practicality and fiscal responsibility within the school district. During his business career, he was involved in half a dozen businesses including Dixie Beverage Company, a family real estate company, an aircraft maintenance shop at the Sumter Airport, chairman of the Sumter National Bank and member of the Board of Directors of Community Bankshares Inc. (now First Citizens Bank).

2. Phil served as our state senator for 32 years (1980-2012) and understands school finances from the state level. During his years of public service, he visited all of Sumter County's public schools. The four children of Phil and E.V. Leventis graduated from Sumter High School.

3. Phil served in the Air National Guard and retired as a brigadier general. He flew combat missions in Operation Desert Storm. On Feb. 4, 1991, Phil was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He is a proven leader.

Phil Leventis is living proof that "ability is ageless." On Election Day, Nov. 3, he will celebrate his 81st birthday. Serving you, the public, is what Phil wants to do. Wish him a happy birthday by voting for PHIL LEVENTIS!
