Born Aug. 5, 1940, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Alvin Green and Norma Hodge Green. He graduated from Mayewood High School in 1958. Upon graduation, he pursued a career in the United States Army. He retired from the military as a sergeant major after more than 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed being outdoors, where he loved to work in his garden, and if there was a way to go fishing, he went. Don enjoyed a good joke or prank and laughing with his family and friends. His sense of humor was contagious. At the age of 67, Don accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior, and he always felt that was the greatest decision of his life.
