Fannie Mae Pearson Durant, 95, passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, in Brandywine, Maryland. She was born on May 1, 1931, in Mayesville, South Carolina, and she was a longtime member of First United Pentecostal Church in Sumter. Known to many as Big Mama, Fannie was a devoted mother of eight whose care extended to nieces, nephews and others she helped raise. She loved cooking for her family, sewing and sharing the wisdom behind one of her favorite reminders: “Just Live.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Durant, and daughter, Betty Ann Wilson. She is remembered by her seven surviving children, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her sister Idaree Pearson Parham and a loving circle of family and friends.
Public viewing will be held Friday, Oct. 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Job’s Mortuary, 312 S. Main St., Sumter. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. at First United Pentecostal Church, 14 Plowden Mill Road, Sumter. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter.
