COLUMBIA – Gov. Henry McMaster has recognized October 2026 as South Carolina Manufacturing Month and Friday, Oct. 2, as National Manufacturing Day. The proclamation was presented during a celebration of manufacturing at Mercedes-Benz Vans Charleston that also marked the launch of the More To Be Made campaign, a new statewide initiative to promote manufacturing careers.
“South Carolina has earned its place as one of the nation’s top manufacturing leaders,” said Gov. McMaster. “Our manufacturers create opportunity, strengthen communities and produce goods and technologies that move our state and nation forward. Their success is South Carolina’s success, and we look forward to this great industry continuing to thrive for years to come.”
“Manufacturing Month gives us a special chance every year to recognize hardworking employees and innovative businesses that help keep South Carolina’s economy moving forward,” said Sara Hazzard, president and CEO of SCMC. “This year, in particular, we are excited to launch the More To Be Made campaign. In doing so, we will showcase the unlimited potential manufacturing careers afford the people of our state, and the positive difference they make for our world-class manufacturing industry.”
“South Carolina’s 16 technical colleges are central to our state’s manufacturing success, delivering hands-on training that connects South Carolinians with rewarding careers and gives employers the skilled workforce they need to succeed,” said Dr. Tim Hardee, president of the South Carolina Technical College System. “More To Be Made will help more people discover those opportunities and see how the outstanding education available at our technical colleges can prepare them to succeed.”
Developed through a partnership between the South Carolina Technical College System and SCMC, More To Be Made uses videos, real stories, digital content and community outreach to help students, parents, educators and job seekers better understand modern manufacturing careers and the many ways to enter the industry.
“Mercedes-Benz Vans Charleston is proud to host this celebration of South Carolina Manufacturing Month and recognize the talented employees who make our work possible,” said Johannes Kellerman of Mercedes-Benz Vans Charleston. “Gov. McMaster’s proclamation is a meaningful tribute to their skill, dedication and contributions to manufacturing in our state.”
South Carolina’s manufacturing industry generates approximately $300 billion in annual economic impact and supports more than 30% of the state’s employment base. The average manufacturing job pays $75,698 annually, about 24% more than the average South Carolina job.
