COLUMBIA – SCDOT seeks public comments on a proposed project to replace the bridge on S-43-40 (S. Saint Pauls Church Road) over Cane Savannah in Sumter County.

The purpose of the project is to restore all bridge components to good condition. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028 and will take approximately 6 to 9 months to complete. SCDOT plans to build the new bridge on the existing roadway alignment, requiring the bridge to be closed to traffic during construction. Information about the proposed detour route is available on the project website, projectportal.scdot.org/bridge-package-24.

Public comments will be accepted through Nov. 13. Comments may be submitted online through the project website; by mail to Austin Purgason, SCDOT, 955 Park St., Columbia, SC 29201; by calling (803) 737-0215; or by email to PurgasonA@scdot.gov.

SCDOT encourages members of the public to review the project website and provide questions or comments about potential impacts of the project. All comments received during a project comment period will be reviewed and included in the project record. Individuals who provide comments will receive a response upon request.
