Sumter man, 21, charged with attempted murder in connection to non-fatal shooting

Sumter police have one in custody after a shooting that occurred last Friday.

According to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for Sumter Police Department, a shooting occurred about 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, after an argument at the home of Mikhal Hunter, 23, of Thomas Drive. Hunter was shot and taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition, McGirt said.

Jae-Sean Cameus Lubin, 21, of Sumter, turned himself in to police on Monday in connection to the shooting. He was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and booked at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, McGirt said.

An investigation is ongoing.
