Sumter Today: Bringing Music to Lee Correctional Institution

Posted

Claire Bryant is the assistant professor of cello at University of South Carolina and a co-artistic director with Decoda, a collective of musicians based in New York. The organization's goal is to create a more compassionate world through music, especially by bringing performances and educational programs to communities in need. The collective has held music workshops at Lee Correctional for eight years, but the partnership was on a hiatus through the pandemic. Bryant returned to Lee this past week to debut her first solo album entitled "Whole Heart", and to hear performances from some of the incarcerated musicians she's worked with in the past.

Sumter Today is presented by the University of South Carolina Sumter, Visit Sumter, SC, and Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
