At least Six Red Cross volunteers from South Carolina deploying to provide disaster relief from Hurricane Isaias

American Red Cross disaster teams are on the ground across the Gulf Coast, working with local officials and partners to provide a haven for those impacted by Hurricane Isaias. At least seven disaster-trained volunteers from the American Red Cross of South Carolina are deploying to support disaster relief operations.

“I’ve been deploying for about 30 years with the American Red Cross,” said Bill Martin, Red Cross volunteer who has deployed to Mobile, Alabama. “I just feel that I can provide a service to people that are at a time of their greatest need.”

Isaias will be the first hurricane to make landfall along a U.S. coastline since Hurricane Milton in October 2024. While the Atlantic hurricane seasons over the past two years were relatively quiet, other major disasters upended lives across the country and beyond.

In a massive response spanning several states, the Red Cross has evacuation centers open now, and more are expected to open throughout the day. Volunteers from the affected area are joining disaster volunteers deploying from across the country to support the relief effort. Relief supplies are being moved into the area, and emergency vehicles are standing by.
